Laptop battery health explained
Battery health is the battery's maximum charge today compared with when it was new. A laptop at 90% battery health holds 90% of the charge it held out of the box.
What is a good number?
- 90% and above: excellent, close to new battery life.
- 80% to 89%: good, comfortable for a full day of light work on most laptops.
- Below 80%: still usable, but you will charge more often. This is reflected in the price.
Cycle count
One cycle is using 100% of the battery's capacity, whether in one go or across several days. Most modern laptop batteries are designed for several hundred to around a thousand cycles before they drop noticeably.
Why we show it on every listing
Battery health is one of the biggest differences between two used laptops that look the same on paper. That is why every nexlap listing shows the real percentage measured during testing.
Making the battery last
Avoid leaving the laptop at 100% on the charger all day in a hot room, keep it ventilated, and turn on any battery-protection or optimised charging option your laptop offers.
